Crochet Shell Stitch Cap for Kids

Materials:

Sport Weight or DK yarn
Size G crochet hook

Note: This cap can be made any size…using larger crochet hook and thicker yarn.  Just be sure to have Round 6 end with multiples of 6 sts.

Directions:

Beginning at top with main color, ch 5, sl st in first ch to form ring.

Round 1: Ch 2 (counts as 1st dc), 11 dc in ring (for total of 12). Join with a sl st in top of ch 2.   

Round 2: Ch 2, 2 dc in each dc around - 24 dc.  Join with sl st in top of ch 2.

Round 3: Ch 2 (dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc) 12 times - 36 dc.  Join with sl st in top of ch 2.   

Round 4: Ch 2 (dc in next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc) 12 times - 48 dc.  Join with sl st in top of ch 2.  

Round 5: Ch 2 (dc in next 3 dc, 2 dc in next dc) 12 times - 60 dc.  Join with sl st in top of ch 2.  

Round 6: Ch 2.  Dc around.  (60 sts)

Round 7: *Ch 3, skip next 2 sts, sl st in 3rd st from ch, sl st in next 3 sts;*  Repeat ** around.

Round 8: *Make 5 dc in loop (shell), sl st in 2nd sl st;*  Repeat ** around.

Round 9: Sl st to 4th dc of next shell.  *Ch 3, skip 3, sl st 3 (across 2nd, 3rd, and 4th dc of hell);* Repeat  around.

Round 10: sl st to center sl st (before loop).  Repeat Round 8.

Round 11: Repeat Round 9.

Rounds 12: Repeat round 8.

Round 13: Repeat round 9.

Round 14: Ch 2.  Dc around (*making 4 dc in top of shell, 2 dc in loop* around).  Finish off.
