size G or H hook for simply soft yarn
size F or G hook for baby or sport weight yarn
size D or E hook for fingering weight yarn

Row 1:  Starting at neckline, ch 32.  dc in 3rd ch from hook.  dc in next 3 dc.  (dc, ch 2, dc) in next ch.  *dc in next 6 ch. (dc, ch 2, dc) in next ch.*  Repeat between** 2 more times.  dc in last 4 ch.  ch 2.  Turn.

Rows 2-5:  *dc in each st to ch 2 sp.  (dc, ch 2, dc) in ch 2 sp.*  Repeat between ** 3 more times.  dc in each remaining st.  ch 2.  Turn.

Row 6:  (forming the sleeves)  dc in each st to ch 2 sp.  dc in ch 2 sp.  Skip all sts to next ch 2 sp.  dc in ch 2 sp.  dc in each st to next ch 2 sp.  dc in ch 2 sp.  Skip all sts to next ch 2 sp.  dc in ch 2 sp.  dc in remaining sts to end.  ch 2.  Turn.

Row 7:  dc in same st as ch 2.  *dc in next 3 sts.  2dc in next.*  Repeat between ** across row to last 4 sts.  dc in remaining sts.  ch 2.  Turn.

If working two colors, change color here.

Row 8:  dc in same st as ch 2.  *dc in next 5 sts.  2dc in next st.*  Repeat between **  across row.  ch 3.  Turn.

Row 9:  *(dc, ch 2, dc) in third st.  Skip next st.*  Repeat between ** across row.  dc in last st.  ch 2.  Turn.

Row 10:  3dc in each ch 2 sp across row.  dc in last st.  ch 3.  Turn.

Repeat rows 9 & 10 till gown is desired length, using either row as final row.  Finish off, & embellish as desired.  Sew small button or crochet ties at neck back.
